Welcome to Critique Week!

For the majority of us on DeviantART, critique is an essential part of our experience and development as artists. As much as we love praise or positive comments from our nearest and dearest, most of us are seeking to improve our craft and to be able to shape our Art more effectively. Some of us purely post our work here to get that all important feedback and the extra special people amongst us are on here to give it.

However, to get critique is not always as easy as slapping up our latest piece into our gallery and wait for the responses to come flooding in. In fact if you genuinely want good critique, you do need to make a bit of an effort to get it and get effective, constructive feedback in return.

This week at communityrelations, we are using the power of Project Educate to have a whole week dedicated not only to how to get critique, but how to give it, use it and make the most of what deviantART can offer and hopefully show you that critique starts with you, the artist.

We're presenting this week with some of the basics. Some of our articles specialise in particular art forms, whilst others look at general rules and advice on critique. However we don't just want to talk at you- we want your interaction too!

How do I get involved with this Project Educate?

:bulletblue: Keep your eye out for journals that end with questions provoking YOUR opinions and interactions and make sure you respond. In particular, there is the  <a href="<a href=" http:="" beccalicious.deviantart.com="" journal="" pe-the-critique-survey-279169911"="">beccalicious.deviantart.com/journal/PE-The-Critique-Survey-279169911"> Critique Survey, that encourages your thoughts!</span>

:bulletblue: Be ENCOURAGED to partake in as many critiques throughout the week as possible, using the articles published to refine your skills. Don’t forget to show these off as part of the week!

:bulletblue: SPREAD the WORD about this week to all your watchers and FAVOURITE this article.

:bulletblue: Come up with IDEAS to encourage critique amongst yourselves and challenge yourself.

:bulletblue: If you personally have the urge to write an article in conjunction with this week, please drop BeccaJS a note and we’ll set something up!

The Big Critique resource list!

Towards the end of the week, we want to draw in as many resources on dA that already exist for critique. Lots of people over the years have given their sound advice and with the help of the community, we would like to pull these all into one article as a hub for critique resources.

If you know of any good resources or have the time to scout dA for them, please note the thumbs to BeccaJS with the title “PE: Crit resource” with a small note about what kind of critique this is (i.e. a guide on critique photography).  All help will be much appreciated!

Critique chat event in   #communityrelations!

On Friday 20th January, come join us in #communityrelationsat 8pm GMT for a free for all critique event! We welcome anyone who is seeking critique and those willing to give! The more the merrier so do pop along!

Discussion #1:

What do you do when you want critique on your artwork on deviantART?

You've just uploaded a piece of artwork onto deviantART. You want someone to give you feedback, where do you go? Is there particular deviants you talk to? Do you use specific groups or chat rooms? We want to hear your methods!

:star: Keep your eyes out for more PE Articles this week! :star:

I mostly go to people to critique my artwork
